Epidural Steroid Injections

Pain management doctors injects medicine into the space around the spinal cord (epidural space) to relieve pain. Cortisone, a steroid that prevents inflammation, is always used. Usually, a numbing medicine (an anesthetic) is used too.

This is the most common type of injection used for back pain. Pain relief is usually temporary.
