What is Degenerative Disc?
Degenerative disc is a term used to describe the normal changes in your spinal discs as you become older. Spinal discs are soft, compressible discs that separate the interlocking bones which constructively make up the spine. Causes include osteoarthritis, herniated disc, as well as spinal stenosis. These conditions may put pressure on the spinal cord, and consequently the discs, which affect the nerve function in your spine.
Symptoms of Degenerative Disc
Common symptoms of degenerative discs are:
- Pain that is usually related to activity and will flare up at times but then return to a stable point
- Chronic pain that is completely disabling is very rare
- Chronic low and back pain, with intermittent episodes of severe pain.
- Muscle spasms
