Kyphoplasty

What is Kyphoplasty?

This surgery includes the making of a small incision, made in the back through which the doctor places a narrow tube, which creates a path through the back into the fractured area through the pedicle of the involved vertebrae. Using x-ray images, the doctor inserts a special balloon through the tube, and gently inflates it. This consequently elevates the fracture and returns the pieces to a more solid, normal position.

It is used to treat spinal fracture that is typically caused by osteoporosis.
